GRASS ROOTS WILL BE CEASING AT THE COMPLETION OF THE 2024 POINTS YEAR – The NCHA Board has elected to discontinue “Grass Roots” as a National Class, at the end of the 2024 points year. As a result, Area Awards will also cease for “Grass Roots” at the end of the 2024 season.
The NCHA’s decision to remove the Grass Roots class is a strategic step forward in supporting the growth of new riders while ensuring fairness and consistency across all events. While the Grass Roots class has served as an entry point for many, it has varied significantly from show to show, creating challenges in offering a fair and uniform competitive environment.
By retiring this class, the NCHA can focus on developing a more structured and consistent opportunity for new riders to develop and gain experience, opening new doors to clearer, more consistent structure that will help nurture and grow the next generation of competitors.
As always, Affiliates can hold non-affiliated classes i.e. Grass Roots, Beginner Rider, Beginner Horse under their own rules with their own end of year awards.
If there are any queries from affiliates, competitors or interested parties please contact the NCHA office for any clarification.
