2019 National Finals and 2020 Breeders Incentive Wrap-up:

The 2019 National Finals were held in Toowoomba from 24-29th of February, showcasing some of the year’s highest point scoring teams and a great display of cutting across the competition. The event provided the opportunity for cutters to compete and socialise while spectators got to watch some of Australian cuttings best horses.

Ameila Servin made a splash taking out the $5,000 Novice riding ‘Lady Too Suen’ with a score of 226.5 as well as the BI Non Pro Classic Challenge with 221 points while placing 3rd in the Open Non Pro with ‘QXH Bonitas Stylish’, scoring 209. Amelia also placed =4th in the BI Non Pro Derby riding ‘Hava Kit Kat’ with 207.5 points.

Among the champions were Dan Heise and Barbara Williams’ ‘One Jewel Jazz’ who took out the Snafflebit with 217 points and Lynda MacCallum riding ‘I See U’ for the win in the Novice Non Pro with a score of 220.

Wayne Baumann and ‘One Stylish Leoetta’, owned by Lazy K Quarter Horses won the $15,000 Novice with their run of 220 points while Peter Karger and ‘TP Mad Catter’, owned by Dianne Bennett won the $15,000 Non Pro on 216 points.

Bill Tonkin and the legendary ‘Tramps Destiny’ impressed the judges to take out both the Rookies on 218 points and the $7,500 Non Pro with a score of 220. In the Open Non Pro Kim Campbell and ‘Whos Moonshine’ took home the buckle with 219 points while Philip Conaghan and ‘Suicide Blonde’ won the Open with 223 points.

All the competitors in the Junior and Senior Youth divisions brought their A games, with Jacoba Tanner and ‘Slick Chisum’ taking out the  Junior Youth with 217 points while Dakota Wadsworth and ‘Neat Chic’ won the Senior youth with 215 points. Addison Dudley managed to take out both second (216.5 points) and third (207 points) place in the Junior Youth with ‘Flashdrive’ and ‘One Stylish Turpentine’ respectively. Bree Smith with ‘Sweet Smokin Hootch’ (210.5 points) placed second in the Senior Youth with Demi Bettini and ‘Jays Boontown’ (208 points) coming in third.

The Breeders Incentive was a highlight again this year with 49 entries across the four competitions.

Jamie Seccombe and ‘Hewitts Metallic Millions’, sired by ‘Metallic Cat took out the BI Open Derby with 217 points while Bill Tonkin and ‘Yulgilbar Im Flying High’, sired by ‘Hydrive Cat’ won the BI Non Pro Derby with 216 points.

The BI Open Classic Challenge was won by Grant Simon riding ‘Dara Ima Preview’, sired by ‘TR Dual Rey’ with 222 points and finally Amelia Servin and ‘Tornado Alley’, sired by ‘Metallic Cat’ won the BI Non Pro Classic Challenge with 221 points.

There were also two Amateur buckles up for grabs in the Breeders Incentive with Marina Wright being crowned the 2020 NCHA Amateur Classic Champion while the 2020 NCHA Amateur Derby Champion Buckle went to Bill Tonkin.

The progeny of nominated sires showed their flair across both the go-rounds and finals and are a testament to the role genetics plays in breeding. We had a great collection of sires nominated including; CAY OH PEP, ONE TIME ROYALTY (IS), METALLIC CAT (USA), KIT KAT SUGAR (IS), DUAL SMART REY (IS), SMOOTH AS A CAT (USA), TR DUAL REY (IS), HYDRIVE CAT (IS), SIX SPINS, ONCE IN A BLU BOON (IMP), DESIRES BLUE TRINITY (IMP), TURPYS DUAL, HOTT SPOT (IMP), HEAVY METAL (IIU), NRR CAT KING COLE, FROGMAN HENRY (IMP), TAPT DANCIN CAT (IMP), EB'S PHALARIS, ONE ROAN PEPTOS, TIMES UP (IMP) and RS CHISUM (IMP).

This year the ‘Snagger Steaks’ competition was introduced as part of the Cutters Folly night with Dachshunds and other small breed dogs (with one large ring in) competing for ‘snags’, prizes and a trophy. This event was definitely a success and provided family fun entertainment for everyone lucky enough to watch.

A large thank you is extended to our supporters; Toowoomba Council, the Wilsonton hotel and Impulse Print as well as the Darling Downs Cutting Club for their role in organising and hosting the National Finals.
